Rwenzori Marathon

Recently listed at number one in the ‘world’s most beautiful half marathons’ by an American Newspaper, the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has officially opened the online registration process for the 2023.

This was revealed on their official Twitter handle today morning. The highly anticipated marathon will take place on 2nd September in Kasese town at the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains also referred to as ‘The mountains of the moon.’

Participants are asked to sign up for early bird tickets at a cost of UGX 50,000 for EAC citizens/residents and USD 50 for International runners.

Amos Wekesa the Chief executive officer Great Lakes Safaris and one of the marathon organisers said the marathon is targeting up to 3000 runners this year.

“We are only targeting 3k runners this year because of the limited accommodations,” he shared on his Twitter handle.

The marathon will feature both a half and full marathon course as well as a 5km fun run. The trail is tarmacked and offers stunning scenary and views of Queen Elizabeth National Park and on a clear day the glacial peaks of the Rwenzoris can be seen.

“This year we have added a new 42km route that takes you along Queen Elizabeth National Park (Where lions climb trees) to the equator. You don’t want to miss this!”

Set up as a social enterprise, The Rwenzori Marathon aims to promote a healthy living, boost tourism and support local communities.
